Play Readers is a group for those who love plays and theater!

We read plays for our own enjoyment in order to experience the rich diversity of dramatic literature and produce plays several times a year.

  • Reading plays for our own enjoyment. Members may come to read a part or just to listen.
There are no rehearsals. Roles are assigned depending on who comes to read. Meetings
are in the Training Room, at 10 a.m., usually on the third Thursday when there is no
rehearsal for a show or on alternate dates as decided.
  • We usually produce four plays a year to provide opportunities for performance and to
entertain the Kendal community. No one is required to learn lines — all performances are
script in hand. Although our production capabilities are somewhat limited, we do our best
with staging, props and some costuming. Shows are held on a Saturday night in the Kendal
auditorium, with rehearsals during the week before the performance.
  • We have begun holding an annual workshop on topics such as how to approach a play
    script and acting technique.
  • There are other opportunities to get involved, including suggesting plays to read or
perform, stage management, props and costumes, programs, publicity…

We generally meet on the third Thursday of the month, either to read for our own
enjoyment or for performance rehearsal. Fun readings may be held on alternate dates.
If you would like to join us or if you want to know more, call, email or drop a note into the
mailbox of any of the Steering Committee members listed above.
