Walking/Hiking

Contact: Tony Bosworth #217

A weekly hike is held every Wednesday throughout the year beginning at Parking Lot 13 at 9:30 A.M. (9:00 A.M.- in hot weather summer months). Hikes last up to two hours and cover about 3 to 4 miles at a modest pace. The hikes are usually on portions of the 7+ miles of meadow and woodland trails within the Kendal Longwood and Kendal Crosslands communities. Some of these trails include fairly steep grades for short distances. Hikers visit the three ponds in Kendal and Crosslands, observe wildlife, appreciate the solitude and enjoy each other’s company.
Occasionally, the group also arranges to walk in other natural areas outside Kendal, such as the Laurel Preserve maintained by the Brandywine Conservancy. Check this website regularly for notices of any changes in the usual routine — for example, a change in the starting time or a plan for a hike outside Kendal.
Everyone is invited to join the hikes: residents, staff, and prospective residents. No prior sign-up is required — just show up on Wednesdays at the time and place indicated above. Good hiking footwear is advised and many hikers bring along hiking sticks, water and, during summer months, insect repellant.
To be added to the e-mail reminder list contact Larry Kirwin #267 or Tony Bosworth #217.
